Thanks David. It was a powerful, inspiring speech. There were a few quotes, I’ll remember for a long time. He said, for example, when he sees our leaders in govt or business stand up today and say how they did it all by themselves, it bothers him greatly. Just look back a short time ago say to the 1960s or even the ’70s and say that it didn’t take a large, collective effort to overcome obstacles that now allows those efforts to advance.

He also mentioned that as a young person heading south from NY City, how things changed. He didn’t change, but other things sure did.

By-the-way, this is such an explored aspect of our past right here in Cecil too. There were some lunch counter sit in. The Conowingo Dinner is one example! Someday those are stories to be explored.

Think how much has changed in that 100 years. It would have been very interesting to hear the speaker. You know, until recently at least, that lunch counter from Greensboro was prominently exhibited at the Smithsonian.

Thanks Patrick. The criminal justice posts that I put up seem to be the most popular. When I started the history blog about 18 mos ago, I wrote one about the whipping post. It’s still, usually, the number one read post on this site.

I Currently have a place at White Crystal beach (the priate side, or as some locals call it, the compound). I’ve been collecting information on it’s history a lot lately and have been speaking with the owers who I am very close friends with. They are very elderly and may not be around much longer. I was thinking about getting them to talk about the history on tape so it’s not lost. They have told me a lot already, there more history there than I thought…

Thanks so much for letting me know about that. I assume the Dept. of Aging is in the new county office building? I’ll stop out and look at it someday. Cecil has such wonderful old buldings. It must be great to have the ability to paint them. Thanks for that effort.

If you are interested ,there is a Painting of that old jail I painted. And is now hanging in the new Deptartment of Aging. There was a time when I volunteer there. Maybe a year or two back. I’ve done several Painting of Cecil County Building. Four of just the Fairhill coverd bridged for several Cecil County residente’s
